Before we start talking about website I wanted to talk to you about Pilates. Teaching Pilates, to be precise.
When you are teaching a private or group Pilates session you are constantly guiding your students through the workout. Knowing the mechanics of each move is important but learning HOW to use the body to MAXIMIZE the effectiveness of each movement is what makes Pilates so valuable.
You talk to your students about proper breathing, you give them cues on how to engage their core and take the tension out of their shoulders. You emphasize proper form and fluid movement. But do you throw all of these cues on your students at once? NO (if you do, then read this article about the art of verbal cuing.)
After the students know how to move you choose the cue that will help them MAXIMIZE (here is this word again) the benefit of each exercise in their body. That’s what makes Pilates so effective and life-changing.
Now let’s switch gears back to our Pilates websites. When new visitors come to your website they have a ton of “cues” thrown at them.
- “Look at the menu”
- “Check out the photo gallery”
- “What are the prices?”
- “Where exactly is this place located?”
- “Who is the teacher?”
- “Oh, let me check out these testimonials.”
- “They have Instagram. I wonder what is their latest post?”
You get the point. It’s easy for your website visitors to get distracted and NEVER contact you or sign up for a session. Instead, the website should clearly emphasize the desired action that you want your website visitors to make.
You can MAXIMIZE your website potential and grow your client list if you give your visitors clear cues – the same principle that you use when teaching a Pilates session.
